We write for a selection of national newspapers and magazines.
With this in mind, I was wondering if you might be interested in talking to me about being a 1950s housewife for a potential feature.
If you are interested in talking to me or have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch by email at features@barcroftmedia.com
Again I hope you don't mind me contacting you out of the blue like this.
Kind regards,
Jemma

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02287600993216886947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500018267590476416.post-57363986063935866332012-07-22T11:04:29.763-07:002012-07-22T11:04:29.763-07:00I was rasied in a manner not unlike the one Barbar...I was rasied in a manner not unlike the one Barbara rasied her children. I am so grateful for it. I was not allowed to wear clothes that were not modest. Cursing was not permitted. I had a structured schedule to my day and we ate dinner at the table every night. We went to church EVERY Sunday. No exceptions. My favorite television shows are Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Andy Griffith, Car 54 Where Are You, and Dick Van Dyke. I was raised to never ever smoke. I am 25 years old now and when I look at my friends who go out partying every night and do all things related to the party lifestyle and I wonder "what enjoyment can they possibly find in living that lifestyle. That lifestyle only leads you down bad roads" and it's something I don't care for. I don't care for rap music and find myself listening to the music of the 40s, 50s and 60s. I grew up admiring women like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Marion Cunningham on Happy Days. I count my blessings that I had parents who rasied me the way they did.would like to think that I'm proof that rasing a child in a home with a 50s mindset in today's society works. In the future when I have children of my own I plan to raise them in the same style that I was raised.vintage_ladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02370744457731346761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4500018267590476416.post-73424093550429772512012-04-17T08:59:59.186-07:002012-04-17T08:59:59.186-07:00I just found your blog. Some of my girl's favorite shows are "Dick Van Dyke", "Addam's Family", "Munsters", "Andy Griffith", "Leave it to Beaver", "Beverly Hillbillies", "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "Brady Bunch" and a few others. They enjoy "Shirley Temple" movies and other old classics, as well. Even the MUSIC I expose them to, while some is "modern", they appreciate "The Beach Boys", "The Beatles" , "The LETTERMEN", "Frank Sinatra" along with others. I frown on the modern "trampy" style clothes they put out for our girls. They are what many may call "protected". I share your thoughts and sentiments, entirely! I'm glad to find your blog! Moms like us have to be strong and hang in there together! I grew up as a little child in the mid 1960's. One of the thing I truly appreciated about my mother was the gift she gave me of a slower pace of life. There was structure to my days, and I sensed her joy of being home and being a mother and housewife. Then when we did do something like go to the store or have a family outing it was special. Children often lose that feeling of "special" at a very young age today or they get pulled from one thing to the next because their mothers do not feel calm or content. There is a wonderful book I think you would enjoy about life in the fifties, I just finished reading it and couldn't put it down. My mother-in-law and several friends of mine have been passing it around. It is called "Standing in the Rainbow" by Fannie Flagg. It is about a kind and loving family with sweet and poignant stories from the parent's and children's point of view. I hope that you have a lovely day, and again beautiful blog. Best wishes on your endeavors!
